Jesus was becoming a famous figure, healing people and teaching them about God's kingdom. Crowds of people followed him wherever he went. They wanted to see the miracles and signs that Jesus performed, and hear all of the amazing things He had to say.
One day, a crowd of
over 5000 men, women, and children gathered to hear Jesus teach. It was a big
crowd, and they would soon be hungry. But Jesus, who knew how to care for
people, did not want them to go away hungry. He taught them about the kingdom
of God and showed them how much he loved them.
He said they were
like sheep without a shepherd and he cared for them just as a good Shepherd
does. When they asked for something to eat, Jesus gave them the five loaves and
two fishes he had.
This is a powerful Bible story that shows us how Jesus loves everyone, no matter their sin. It also shows us how important it is to love your neighbors quik 5000.
In Matthew 14:13-21,
Jesus Feeds the 5000 to show his great power and to show kindness to the
crowds. It's a virtually rich Bible story that will be an instant hit with your
Sunday school class.
First, we should
notice that it's the first miracle recorded in all four gospels, so it has to
be a very special event. All four of them seem to agree that this event
happened on the Day of Unleavened Bread, which is Passover for Jews.
If you're going to
teach this story, you may want to point out that many of the people in the
crowd were Jewish. They probably came to see Jesus because they were searching
for a way to be healed.
They could not have
known the full details of the kingdom of God, but they understood that it was
something very important. They understood that God wanted to send a king who
would rule over them.
It's also likely that
the people who were there had been following Jesus for a long time. They had
heard him preaching and healing people, so they knew that he was a very special
person who was here to help them.
The story of the feeding
of the 5000 is a wonderful reminder to remember that God's love is so deep, and
that He has unlimited resources. The disciples could not have purchased enough
food to feed all 5,000 people, so Jesus used other people to provide them with
the food they needed.
We need to remember
that the crowds were people just like us who had been following Jesus for a
long time, and they had physical needs as well as spiritual ones. Their hearts
were empty and they needed the teachings of Jesus to fill them up.
We need to remember
that Jesus was tired from traveling and from the large and demanding crowds
that were following him. But even as he was so tired, he had compassion for the
people in his crowd and cared for them just as a Good Shepherd does.
